The Joy of Slow Travel: Unwind and Reconnect with Nature on a Motorhome Holiday

When we think of travelling, many of us will picture an action-packed city with a packed itinerary and lots of things to see and do. Others will imagine a luxurious beach holiday, with volleyball and surfing during the day and drinks by the sea in the evening.

While there’s certainly nothing wrong with the above holidays, sometimes you might be looking for something a little different. A motorhome holiday can be the perfect way to take things a bit slower. You’ll have the chance to truly unwind and reconnect with nature like never before, making for the ideal holiday alternative. Let’s find out more.

What is a Motorhome?

Motorhomes like live-in camper vans are large vehicles that have their own self-contained living quarters. They are often considered to be the same thing as caravans, but there is a distinction between the two that is important to note. Caravans must be towed by another vehicle, while motorhomes are completely independent and offer both driving and living options.

These versatile mobile homes have essential amenities such as sleeping areas, kitchen facilities, and bathrooms, allowing travelers to embark on extended journeys comfortably and conveniently. If you’ve ever dreamed of hitting the road in your motorhome, you might be interested in exploring opportunities to win a campervan, making your travel aspirations a reality.

Motorhomes come in a wide range of different shapes and sizes. You can get small campervans that are perfect for one or two people, or huge vehicles that can comfortably accommodate a large group of people. If you visit a motorhome hire company like Ariescape (www.ariescape.co.uk), you’ll quickly realise just how much variety there is.

When it comes to choosing a vehicle for your motorhome holiday, you need to think about how many people are going on your holiday and what you’re going to be doing. A short trip with you and your partner means a small campervan could suffice, while a longer full-family trip means you should look at getting a larger vehicle. To help finance your adventure, Southeast Financial offers motorhome loans tailored to your needs.

Where Can You Go?

If you like what you’ve heard so far and think that a motorhome company may be your ideal trip, you might be left wondering where you’ll be able to go in your motorhome.

The beauty of motorhome holidays is that you can go anywhere you want! As long as it’s accessible by road, you can go just about anywhere you can think of in your motorhome. Why not take a trip down to the Lake District and spend some time in this tranquil, peaceful region? Or you could head up to the wilds of the Scottish Highlands and explore some of the country’s most stunning and formidable terrain.

Wherever you are in your motorhome, be it the UK or Europe, you’ll be able to really take the time to explore the natural world and appreciate everything it has to offer.

Go at Your Own Pace

On a traditional holiday, chances are you’re going to be adhering to a strict schedule. You’ll have flights to catch, connecting links to make, and will need to check in and out of your hotel at certain times. What’s more, you may have to rush to get to certain attractions.

This means that traditional holidays can quickly become stressful, particularly if you’re travelling as part of a group or with young children. If you were to inadvertently miss a flight or a travel connection, your holiday could become totally derailed and you could be left seriously out of pocket.

With a motorhome holiday, you won’t be bound to schedules or itineraries. You’ll be free to go at your own pace, going where you want to go for as long as you want to.

Things to Think About

Before you set off on your motorhome adventure, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind.

First, if you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997 and want to drive a large motorhome, you may have to take additional driving tests. To drive a motorhome that weighs over 3,500 kg, you’ll need to pass a Class 2 HGV test. To drive a motorhome that weighs over 7,500 kg, you’ll need to pass a Class 1 HGV test.

You’re also going to need to think about parking. In England and Wales, so-called ‘wild camping’ is strictly forbidden unless you have express permission from the landowner. In Scotland, wild camping is permitted, but it’s always best to ask permission from the landowner anyway to save any trouble down the line.

Conclusion

Holidays can be all systems go, leaving you with little time to truly relax and unwind. Not so with a motorhome, a motorhome holiday gives you the chance to slow things down and really take things at your own pace. There’s no better way to explore the countryside, a motorhome holiday will give you the opportunity to truly appreciate nature.
