Following are the points to consider before Everest trekking:-
- It is suggested to engage in some physical activity before trek. This helps in strengthening your body and have good stamina for hiking.
- Be mentally prepared as the trail is both physically and mentally challenching and demanding.
- Add spare days in your trek rather than itinerary as mountain weather is difficult to predict and due to weather condition your flight may not take off on time. Having extra day helps you a lot in such case.
- Sort-out trekking gears in Kathmandu, you don’t need to carry from your home country.
- Know your luggage limit for Lukla flight. (I.e. 10 kg each)
- Carry as less as you can as you have to hike long for many days in mountains.
- Have insurance covering Helicopter Rescue in case of emergency. This is really important.
- Be prepared for flight delays and diversion to Ramechap due to high volume at domestic terminal of Kathmandu.
- Know your health issue and act accordingly. Consult with your doctor before travelling.
- Own books and snacks might be good idea as you can read during evenings and munch on snacks wherever you want while hiking.
- Stay hydrated but avoid tap water of lodges. Do use purification tablets if you don’t buy sealed water bottles.
- Make sure you eat enough, don’t joke around with altitude sickness.
- Bring your own Toiletry.
- Keep electronic close to body heat as in cold temperature you battery of electronics may die soon then usual.
- Don’t rely on ATMs that are available on trails. Having spare change of cash is very handy while trekking in Nepal.
- Take your time on trails do not rush.
- Use every piece of gears before trek so you use it easily while trekking.
- Listen to your guide/team leader. Don’t go where ever you want as you are not familiar with terrain. You can ask your guide to go with you.
- Tell your guide how exactly you are feeling in terms of your health. Usually our guides constantly ask, do not hesitate to tell them how you feel.
