Emily Harrington: 1st Woman to Free-climb El Capitan’s Golden Gate Route in Less Than 24 hours

American climber Emily Harrington became the first woman to successfully reach the summit of El Capitan. He completed the climb in less than a day. El Capitan, one of the world’s most famous rocks, is the center of attention for those who love climbing. Many athletes have climbed the El Capitan rock, which is located in Yosemite National Park in the USA. In fact, the climber named Alex Honnold was the first person to climb the El Capitan rock with the free solo method. This time, American climber Emily Harrington became the first woman to free climb to El Capitan in one day and the fourth person in the world. After a 21-hour climb, Harrington reached the top of the granite rock about a thousand meters high. Let’s look at the details together.

El Capitan is a rock rising for about a kilometer into the sky in Yosemite National Park in the US state of California. Climber Emily Harrington climbed this rock in less than a day. Emily Harrington became the first woman to free climb to El Capitan in one day and the fourth person in the world. Harrington reaches the summit after 21 hours of climbing.

Emily Harrington, 34, reached the top of the rock by following the route called “Golden Gate”. Harrington shared images of his climbing on his Instagram account, which has more than 200,000 followers. Below is a photo shared by Emily Harrington; “When I set only one day as a goal, I would never believe that I could climb El Capitan freely during that time.” wrote and added; “Impossible goals are a challenge to see if we can be better versions of ourselves.”

Two more climbers stood beside Harrington. Her boyfriend Adrian Ballinger, Mountain Everest guide, and Alex Honnold, who wrote the history of free solo in 2017. He was the first person to climb El Capitan rock with the free solo method. Harrington made a statement to AP about his success. Stating that “She had reached the summit many times before, but never reached the summit in a single day,” Harrington continued his words as follows; “About a year ago I suffered a terrible fall and was hospitalized with injuries. But I didn’t give up and practiced for months at my home in California. Over the years, I felt like I didn’t belong to the free climb. But throughout my experience I learned that there is no gender affiliation in sport and there is no specific formula for success. I was creative and adventurous and found my own way. “

El Capitan, the rock formation made of a single piece of granite, is considered one of the most difficult climbing points in the world among climbers. For decades in Yosemite National Park, professional climbers have challenged each other to prove themselves. However, free climbers use a rope to hold them when they fall, but they don’t need any tools to help them ascend.
