Diamonds, and their awe-inspiring luster and splendor, have attracted billions of people for ages. Most people believe that these gems are exclusive to fancy jewelry designs. But, as it seems, the ever sparkling diamond cuts and shapes do not only catch the eyes of women and merchants only. Their sleek appearance has made it to the architects’ visions. And, we cannot blame them for that. From the initial diamond trading in the 4th century until now, diamonds have ruled the jewelry world for centuries and for obvious reasons. They have already begun to mark their royalty in the architectural world now.

List of Beautiful Diamond Shaped Buildings in the World

Who is not fascinated by diamonds? The jewel-inspired art and architecture pretty much explain that everyone is. Whether it is your wedding or wedding anniversary, what is better than sparkling ornaments adorned with the best lab-created diamonds? Absolutely nothing! But, you know what? People who do not buy gems; construct them.

Architectural designs with diamond-like features are unique. Therefore, with time, they are getting popular among people. Moreover, their prismatic engineering renders them no less than any architectural masterpiece. If you are an architecture student or fanatic who wants to see unique buildings with your soulmate, this post might interest you. It might inspire you even if you are a businessman looking for unique ideas for a new office branch that help you stand out.

Here are ten scintillating skyscrapers that look like various precious stones such as diamonds and even geodes:

1. The Octopus by Make Architects

Situated in London, The Octopus by Make Architects is a part sculpture and a part building. The structure sits next to a busy intersection. And it features a metallic color, semi-transparent shroud equipped with LED displays. According to the architects, the building, nicknamed for its distinctive shape, acts as a proposal for London’s western gateway.

2. Basque Health Department by Coll-Barreu Arquitectos

In Bilbao, Spain, Arquitectos gave a makeover to an old building. That building now showcases the city’s dynamic in true meaning by reflecting it from all angles. The idea does not only look incredible, but it also maintains a moderate temperature and good ventilation in broad daylight. The structure consists of mirrored panes of glass that become transparent in the evenings and look even more eye-catching.

3. Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies in Chicago

This Institute of Jewish Learning and Leadership with angled glass facets stands on Michigan Avenue, Chicago. Its overall glass exterior design enhances the natural light inside while presenting extensive views of the city on the outside. Krueck & Sexto Architects designed this building to represent how light is fundamental to Jewish traditions.

4. Le Kinémax by Denis Laming

A cinema located in a theme park in Poitiers, France, is another diamond-inspired piece of architecture. This building with a rough glass facade is a creation of the architect Denis Laming. It is probably one of the most famous and acknowledged works of Laming. By the looks of it, it resembles diamond stud earrings.

5. Rock Gym by New Wave

In Iran, the New Wave Architecture created this attractive-looking structure. It consisted of spiky glass stretches. These pieces mimic the look of diamonds poking out of a geode. Who can guess that the design inspired by the large-scale movements of the earth’s crust and tectonic forces is a gym?

6. Cleveland Contemporary Art Museum by Frashid Moussavi

This museum is a six-sided masterpiece with reflective panels. The panels respond to any changes in movement, light, or weather around the building, making it a unique piece of architecture in Ohio. Its structure comprises black stainless steel and glass with a hexagonal bottom and a square top. The design seems to be taking after a bizarre-looking engagement ring.

7. Faceted Atrium with the Old Roman Architecture

Talking about buildings and architecture, how can one miss mentioning Rome? Faceted Atrium is a gem-like combination of steel and glass structure added to the infamous, century-old Palazzo. Without compromising the historical value of the well-preserved landmarks around it, this facade illuminates the inside by bringing in warmth and light.

8. The Diamond Chapel at the Grand Bali Beach Hotel

One of the most beautiful examples of gem-like architectural shapes is the Diamond Chapel in Bali. At Grand Bali Beach Hotel, a gigantic diamond of blue color sits in the clear blue waters giving the chapel a dramatic look. The place has become a wedding destination for many lovebirds due to its scenic and photogenic features. Because why not? It looks like a giant proposal ring.

9. Orchard Central in Singapore by DP Architects

The first vertical mall in Singapore, Orchard Central by DP Architects, is a twelve-story building. Wrapped in a beautiful facade of metal and glass angled to offer glimpses of the inside adds a stylish and futuristic touch to the building, specifically when the lights stream out in the evenings. The building stands among one of the highest skyscrapers in Singapore.

10. Shenzhen Universiade Sports Center in China

Ever seen a huge diamond stud-like building? If you haven’t then head over to China. GMP Architekten designed this arena in 2011. Designed for Universiade international collegiate athletics championship, this structure has a kaleidoscopic exterior. The peaks and valleys formed by the veneer imitate the natural elevations of the neighboring landscape.

What is the Bottomline?

Every architect aspires for his creations to classify as masterpieces and gems. But, some smart ones take this to a literal level. Yes, by making their art look like one. The above-mentioned architectural designs are a few of many other diamond-inspired buildings. Undoubtedly, these structures are visually stimulating and compelling marvels. The art of coming up with such ideas is desired by many but mastered by only a few because only the smartest ones of artists can properly engineer buildings like these.

The buildings with such forms and designs do not need spare planes to shine bright because they are geometric marvels. Such architectures are compelling enough and unique in themselves. These are buildings made of glass or mirrored stainless steel that shimmer in the sunlight and give off their glow after dark. So, thousands of people cannot resist turning their heads twice. Indeed, these structures deserve appraisal for their charm. Also, their creators deserve applause for their intelligent engineering.
