When it comes to cleaning various items, a lot of us are very particular. We are very careful with the cleaning products we buy and our method of cleaning, particularly when we have to clean small, fragile items such as jewellery and collectables (such as coins). But cleaning jewellery and other small, delicate items is necessary to keep them in their best condition, and proper cleaning will help maintain their beauty, lustre, and longevity. If we don’t clean them regularly, these items may well lose their shine, become tarnished, or even corrode after some time, which will cause them to lose value.

But we all know that cleaning jewellery can be especially daunting because we may be dealing with delicate stones or intricate designs. But with the right tools and techniques, you can more easily clean your jewellery and other small and delicate items without damaging them. So how best do you clean small, delicate items such as jewellery and collectables? Let’s find out.

A mix of soap and water

Cleaning with soap and water is one of the easiest and most common ways to clean jewellery. You just need to add a small amount of soap to warm water and then soak your jewellery for a few minutes. Then you can use cloth or a brush with soft bristles to scrub any grime or dirt gently. Lastly, rinse the item in clean water and dry it using a soft cotton cloth.

Ultrasonic cleaning

Another method you can use for highly effective cleaning is ultrasonic cleaning. It is a cleaning method that is highly recommended as it cleans dirt and grime from the surface and from tiny crevices and corners. You can use an ultrasonic cleaner and need a specialised machine that uses high-frequency sound waves to clean your jewellery. But make sure to follow the instructions carefully and choose the ideal cleaning solution for your jewellery.

Before using an ultrasonic cleaner, inspect your jewellery for any signs of damage or loose stones, and if you find any, it’s best to have them repaired before cleaning them in the ultrasonic cleaner. On the other hand, you can also rely on an industrial parts cleaning service, and the service will make sure to take care of your items carefully and professionally. In fact, plenty of industrial ultrasonic cleaning services cater to different cleaning needs – be it jewellery and collectables, automotive parts and other components, and more.

Toothbrush and baking soda

If you are dealing with tougher stains, use baking soda and a toothbrush. Mix the baking soda with some water to create a paste. Then dip a toothbrush into the mixture and gently scrub the jewellery or small item. Finally, rinse it using clean water and dry it with a soft piece of cloth.

Professional cleaning

It is best to go for professional cleaning if your jewellery or other items are particularly delicate. Jewellers have special techniques and equipment that can safely clean your jewellery without causing damage. In addition, they can inspect your jewellery for any loose stones or damage and repair them.
