5 Ultimate Impacts of Ignoring Air Conditioner Cleaning and Maintenance

The most important and well-known air conditioner function is to effectively cool a room. While this assumption is right, it is also important to understand that air conditioner benefits encompass more than that. The right usage of air conditioners can also help to make the air quality inside the room healthier. But this function won’t be able to work effectively if you don’t ensure that you maintain and regularly clean the air conditioner.

More than that, an air conditioner that is rarely cleaned and serviced can also bring negativity to you. From interfering with your health, shortening the air conditioner’s life span, and even bringing an overall bad impact to the room where the air conditioner is placed. When you have an air conditioner installed in your house, taking care of it as a means of investment is a must.

Read on below for the ultimate impacts that may happen if you rarely clean and maintain your air conditioner.

1. Damage Air Conditioner Faster

Filter inside the air conditioner is the main part of the aircon that is prone to dirt and debris. If the air conditioner filter remains left in such a condition, then it will disrupt the airflow. This can lead to a more severe problem, such as triggering the air conditioner to sustain damage or inability to cool the room as it should be.

This issue can be a major one, that certainly will incur high costs for repair. In some cases, the air conditioner which sustains severe damage might need to be replaced with a new one.

2. Increase Room Humidity

When the air conditioner is not properly cleaned, eventually its system will flop. Some of its previous functions can even decrease in performance. For example, an air conditioner should be able to properly maintain the humidity of the indoor air. However, a dirty air conditioner won’t be able to carry out that role.

On the contrary, a dirty air conditioner will instead mess up the humidity arrangement, thus resulting in the room becoming more humid and accelerating the growth of mold in some parts of the room. Irregular moisture and the appearance of mold will have a bad impact on health. Therefore, letting your air conditioner work continuously without making sure that it has a regular service schedule is not a wise move.

3. Cause Legionnaires Disease

Dirty air conditioners can also cause Legionnaires disease. This disease is caused by a bacterium called Legionella Pneumophila which can cause you to have high fever, headache, fatigue, and constant coughing. Due to the common flu-like symptoms, many don’t think much of this disease and don’t have any ideas about the ultimate cause of the illness. But unfortunately, if this disease continues without proper treatment and prevention, it can cause complications in the future.

4. Respiratory System Disorder

Constant exposure to dirty air conditioning is also dangerous for your respiratory system. An air conditioner that is not cleaned regularly, especially the filter part – will be a good place for various kinds of bacteria as well as dust and other dirt to thrive. If this continues to happen, it means that all the occupants in the room will constantly inhale this dirt and bacteria – which is not good at all for the respiratory system.

This can cause disturbance in the form of allergy or even infection. It can even cause relapse in people with asthma if they are staying in a room with a dirty air conditioner.

5. Sick Building Syndrome

Another disease that can happen due to dirty air conditioners is sick-building syndrome (SBS). This illness is dangerous, especially if it’s happened in a work environment. SBS can cause a decrease in productivity in the office, which can cause huge losses for the company.

Sick building syndrome itself is believed to happen because fungi and various other microorganisms gather and accumulate in the cooling system. Due to not having a proper clean treatment, the fungi and viruses will circulate freely in the office environment and be inhaled by the employees. No specific illness can be identified in this syndrome, but common symptoms that might happen include headaches, irritation, and difficulty of breathing.

An air conditioner is a great investment for your house or office. Especially if you are living in a country with hot and humid weather. Having an air conditioner can ensure you stay comfortable in any situation. But just like any other machine, the air conditioner needs regular maintenance for it to be able to perform optimally. Without it, the air conditioner can have several negative impacts on your well-being.

You can handle your air conditioner cleaning task, as it only involves simple cleaning in the filter area. However if you’re not sure, it’s advisable to seek assistance from a professional who specializes in air conditioner maintenance instead. In such cases, contacting experienced experts from luceaircon.sg can be your ultimate solution to maintain the air conditioner!
