Do Your Windows Need Replacing?

As a homeowner, it’s important to keep up with all the maintenance work on your property. Not only does this keep your home looking neat and tidy, but it will also help to prevent damage to the structure of your home. Things like checking your roof for broken tiles after a storm or making sure you don’t have damp developing in the cellar or the corners of your rooms are all part of this.

Another important area you need to look out for is your windows. After a time, they will get worn out and need replacing, or perhaps they weren’t the best quality windows to begin with. If you’re not sure if you need to get new windows, look out for the following signs that will indicate that you do.

Draughts

Draughts can be uncomfortable, and no one wants to have to deal with one in their home. Not only does it send a chill throughout your living space, but it can also result in having to pay higher energy bills as the heat escapes through these gaps more quickly.

If you can feel a draught coming in through your window even though it is closed, this could be due to a damaged seal or because the window has been fitted poorly. You might be able to repair the seal if this is the problem, but if it’s the latter, you should get new windows put in. You can find out more about the cost of new windows and see different styles at this company that specialises in windows Kingswinford.

Condensation

If you can see that condensation is forming in-between the glass panes in your windows, this is also a sign that they might need to go. It is usually due to a damaged seal that is allowing the water vapour to get in. It will leave your windows looking foggy or streaked with water droplets, and it can also lead to issues with mould and damp developing if you’re not careful. You should fix this quickly, you can utilize the help of a windows grant to get the funding needed for repairs.

Mould

Mould is not only unsightly, but it can also pose a health risk if you’re not careful. It can form easily in homes, especially those that have damp areas and issues with ventilation. It’s not uncommon to see mould develop around your windows, but this is usually a sign that there is something wrong with them. If your mould keeps reappearing despite you ventilating the area, it could be because moisture is getting in around the edges of your window frames and they could need taking out and replacing with new ones that are fitted properly.

Leaks

You might be able to temporarily stop leaking windows by putting on some new sealant around the exterior frames, but if this doesn’t work, you will need to get new windows fitted and installed as soon as possible. Leaks will only lead to issues with damp that could spread throughout the brickwork in your property and causing more damage.

If you can see any of these signs in your windows, it might be time to get some new ones installed. Not only will these keep your house cosy, but they can improve the overall appearance of your property if you pick stylish frames.
