To get a family visa or extend one, you or a family member must apply for ILR. Partner, child, parent, and dependent adult visas are family visas. If you or a family member wants to be allowed indefinite leave to remain in the UK permanently, you must also submit an online application. If you haven’t done so, you should find out if your family member qualifies for an indefinite leave of absence or a visa.
Check How Much a Visa Fees
When applying, your relative will have to pay a charge. They will be required to pay for each applicant they bring along, such as your partner and their children. Depending on where in the UK or abroad your family member is applying, there are different fees. Additionally, you must determine whether an immigration health fee applies to your family member. You can pay the application fees on behalf of a family member.
If a member of your family applies from outside the UK
If a member of your family applies from outside the UK:
On GOV.UK, you may look up the cost of a visa. The costs for the “Route to Settlement” visa categories should check:
- The costs for the majority of applications are listed under “Route to Settlement.”
- If an adult family member who is not your partner is applying for a visa, you can find the costs under “Route to Settlement – other dependent relatives.”
- Suppose your partner or child is applying for a visa when you are a refugee or are under humanitarian protection. You can find the costs under “Route to Settlement – refugee dependent relative.”
If a member of your family is applying from the UK:
On GOV.UK, you may find out how much the immigration fees are. The following visa categories’ fees need to be verified:
- If a member of your family has to extend their visa or apply for their first visa, you may see the costs under “Leave to Remain – Other.”
- If a family member requests indefinite leave, you can find the costs under “Indefinite permission to remain – primary applicants and dependents.”

Starting The Application
You must apply the applicant’s family member’s name. Get them to review the application before you submit it if they are at least 16 years old; if it is incorrect, they will be held accountable.
A copy of the application can be printed for your family member to review. They can log in separately to check it, and you can also save the application. Depending on whether a member of your family is inside or outside the UK will determine what needs to be done. They can:
- Apply from outside the UK on GOV.UK
- Apply from inside the UK on GOV.UK
Booking An Appointment
When applying, your family member will generally need to make an appointment to have their image and fingerprints taken. This is known as their “biometric information.” Your family member must schedule an appointment on the UK Visa and Citizenship Application Service website if they live in the UK.
Uploading Evidence
After submitting their application, your family member must attach scans or pictures of their supporting documents. You can upload the proof if you are applying for them. A family member will learn:
- How to upload your proof.
- What proof they require: Generally, applicants must supply proof to back up every claim they make in their applications.
The Home Office will typically inform them of what they need to do and give them another opportunity to supply the proper evidence if they don’t upload it before rejecting the application.
Proving Your Relationship
If your partner is applying, they must upload documentation proving you are in a committed relationship. Documents that demonstrate, for instance, that you:
- Have a shared home.
- Have a child together.
- Have joint savings or bank accounts.
- Have spent time together and communicate regularly.
Fulfil a Financial Requirement
Your family member will have to provide evidence of your income and savings. If you receive benefits or a pension, for instance, they’ll have to upload the following:
- A letter detailing the number of your benefits or pension from the supplier
- A year’s worth of bank statements for the account they are paid into
Conclusion:
Your family member must pick up a BRP within 10 days of their arrival in the UK. They will have chosen a post office as part of the application procedure and need to pick up the BRP from there. The BRP must collect within 10 days; otherwise, they risk being fined or having their visas cancelled. Do you want to apply for ILR? Hire My Legal Services for the right guidance.
