When Might Natural Pet Food Be Right For Your Pet?

Most of us probably fuss over what our pets eat more than what we consume! We love our pets deeply, so we may often wonder whether we’re making the right choices with their diets.

There are many reasons why pets have varied responses to their food. They can have taste preferences (yes, pets can be fussy eaters, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!), allergies, or they may have simply been conditioned to only eat certain types of grub.

Natural pet food addresses some of these concerns. So, let’s look into when might natural pet food be right for your pet.

What Exactly is Natural Pet Food?

As you might guess, natural pet food is made of all-natural ingredients. There are no artificial additives, colourings, flavourings or preservatives mixed in. Instead, these pet foods are made from wholesome protein sources, vegetables, and grains to provide a balanced diet.

From chicken to carrots, salmon to sweet potatoes, these ingredients are ones you’d recognise from your own kitchen – in essence, real food for real pets! However, don’t make the (serious) mistake of making your own pet food – ensure that you’re still buying products that are professionally made by well-reputed experts.

The Benefits of Natural Pet Food

Perhaps the biggest draw of natural pet food is its potential health benefits. These foods can help reduce the risk of allergies, digestive issues, and even certain skin conditions due to the calculated absence of preservatives and absence!

The higher quality proteins can contribute to healthier coats, leaner bodies and increased energy levels. Positive testimonials from Applaws shed more light on the health side of things, saying that the new diet meant “No more greasy fur, runny eyes, and upset tummies” for their pooch. Another stated that, after their cat was diagnosed with a tumour in their mouth, natural food was the only thing that fed her appetite. Applaws have a website and store locator if you wish to learn more.

However, it’s not just physical health that may be helped here; natural pet food can be a boon for a pet’s mental and emotional well-being too. Our pets need variety and quality just as much as we do. Introducing new, natural flavours and textures can stimulate their tastebuds and minds both. Seeing them excited about dinner time? Well, that’s a joy for us too, isn’t it?

When to Consider Switching to Natural Pet Food

Now that we know what natural pet food is and its main benefits, the question of when to serve it to your pet can be approached more informatively. After all, changing a pet’s diet with care and tact is important, as sudden changes can upset their stomachs.

Even if your pet seems perfectly healthy, they can still benefit from a natural diet. So, the answer to ‘when might natural pet food be right for your pet?’ could, technically, be whenever you and they feel like it! Still, if you’re noticing that your pet seems lethargic, has a dull coat, experiences frequent digestive issues, or just isn’t as excited about mealtime as they used to be, it might be time to consider switching to a natural diet.

Scheduling still plays a role. When making the switch, start by introducing the new food gradually, mixing it with their current feed. Over time, increase the proportion of the new food until it completely replaces the old.
