People can meet and fall in love anywhere anytime, whether it’s at work, at the gym or their eyes meet across a crowded bar… but for some people, love can be found in the strangest of places. Here are some of the more surprising places you might meet your next partner.
On a Videogame
If playing multiplayer games online is how you like to spend your free time, you could end up scoring a bigger win than you imagined and meet your next partner this way. Getting to know someone before meeting them in person can be a great way to form a relationship that isn’t based solely on physical attraction and if you meet them through a videogame first, you know that you have at least one thing in common!
At Someone Else’s Wedding
It might sound like something out of a rom-com but other people’s weddings can be a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, and single guests will already be feeling romantic and ready to find love for themselves. Plus, a wedding has lots of picture-perfect moments for a first date, like slow dancing, posing for photographs together or sharing a slice of cake.
Walking the Dog
If you have a dog, then you’ll already know how easy it is to bump into and get chatting with other dog owners when you’re out and about on walks. If you’re looking for love, this gives you a great chance to get to know someone without any of the pressures of formally dating. If you don’t have a dog, then why not offer to walk a friend’s pooch or tag along with them? Or if you’d love a dog but can’t commit to owning one, you can even borrow a dog.
On a Reality TV Show
Dating reality shows are on the rise and are more popular than ever. From Netflix’s Love Is Blind to Love Island and Married at First Sight, many of us enjoy watching how others fare on these dating shows. But what about actually appearing on one?
A recent study conducted by sexy lingerie specialists Hunkemöller found that over half (54%) of 25-34-year-olds would consider applying for a reality TV show to find love. Men were particularly eager with more than a third (37%) willing to appear on a show compared to 29% of women.
When it comes to the success of these shows, the study found Love is Blind, was found to have the highest success rate, with a third (33%) of the couples still together at the end of filming. Too Hot to Handle came second and Love Island came third. At the other end of the spectrum, Dinner Dates was found to be the least successful, along with Naked Attraction (just 2% of the couples stayed together after the show) and First Dates, with just 3% of those matched on the show staying together long-term.
On Transport
Whether you’re journeying by bus, train or aeroplane, travel provides an ideal opportunity to meet new people, and you never know, romance could blossom on the platform or in the airport lounge seating. A study for I Love Trains Week found that a third of rail travellers believe that travelling by train is romantic and 40% would chat to a fellow passenger. So if you’re looking for romance, then next time you’re planning a trip, consider leaving your car at home!
