3 Things Homeowners Often Forget While Completing a Home Makeover

As of 2021, four in five UK homeowners undertook a home makeover, with the kitchen and the bathroom being the most popular rooms to refresh. While embarking on a home makeover can be incredibly exciting for everyone involved, it is a time of many decisions, and amid all of them, it can be easy to overlook a few minor details.

From updating light fixtures and replacing the cabinet hardware to measuring available space and updating old LPD doors, many oversights can impact the overall results of a home makeover. So, if you’re currently undergoing a home makeover or planning one in the future, continue reading as we outline several often-forgotten elements during a home makeover project in our article below:

Changing Outdated Light Fixtures

Imagine spending upward of £50K on a complete bathroom overhaul, only to walk in once the works have been completed, flick on the light, look up at the old light shade and see it emitting a barely-there yellow light. It can make the whole bathroom refurb feel redundant when you don’t have adequate lighting to showcase all your hard work and enjoy it properly.

To prevent this, ensure that you write changing the light fixtures (and water fixtures if you want to go all out) into your plans, as this ensures that the room has been given a total refresh and minimises the scope for disappointment or further work later. At times all a bathroom needs are updated light/water fixtures, and you can avoid a total overhaul.

Update Entryways

Although we use them daily, our internal doors rarely close our minds when undergoing a home makeover. Our interior doors are constantly opening and closing, so naturally, over time, they will start to display signs of deterioration, such as cracks, scratches, chips etc. which can affect not only their functionality but the visual appeal of your home.

The last thing you want is a complete living room makeover, only for the LPD doors installed since you moved in to be there still. Therefore, ensure you dedicate a small chunk of your makeover time to browsing all the LPD door options so that at the end of the project, everything in your living room looks brand-new and befitting of your refreshed space.

If you’d like inspiration for your new LPD doors, consider visiting providers’ websites such as Online Door Store, which supplies a range of LPD, oak, glazed, and many others. Visit their website to browse their whole catalogue, read reviews of previous customers, etc. or contact them directly for more information.

Measuring Available Space

While this might sound evident to seasoned interior designers, you’ll be surprised how many people fall in love with a piece of furniture, click add to basket, and find that they can’t fit it in the space that they’d envisioned it in because they failed to measure it beforehand.

To prevent disappointment, it is essential that you note the measurements of all furniture you intend to buy and where you’re going to place it so that you know whether to keep scrolling past that L-shaped sofa or not.

Unlike fitting an extra plate into the dishwasher, you cannot manipulate your living space to make something fit, so it’s best to double-check before ordering anything, or you could end up with an even more extensive (and costly) situation on your hands.
