The Most Important Things You Need to Know Before Playing Blackjack Online

By Voucherix-C Leave a Comment

Blackjack is one of those card games that most people have heard about or maybe played a few times. This makes it an ideal choice for anyone looking to play their first online casino games, but what are the most important points about blackjack that not everyone is aware of?

The Rules Vary (But Not Too Much)

Why can we see so many different online blackjack games? One of the reasons for this is that there are numerous game developers who all create their own versions of the classic card game, but it’s also worth pointing out that the rules may change from one version to the next, and some feature a live dealer but others don’t.

If you’ve played roulette then you’ll realize that there’s a fundamental difference between the American and European versions, as the American wheel has a double zero on it. However, when looking at the different versions of blackjack the differences between games tend to be more subtle, as the biggest modification in the rules is simply over how the dealer gets their second card.

A look at the game rules that are written across the table is usually enough for us to see the basics that we need to know, such as what type of hand the dealer has to stand on and how many decks are used. These factors are crucial for players who take the game seriously, but not everyone takes them into account when deciding how to play each hand.

Blackjack Is Just You Vs the Dealer

The next point to bear in mind is that the only result that matters is your hand against the dealer’s hand. It doesn’t matter what any other players at the table have in their hands. If you get closer to 21 than the dealer, without going over that number, then you win the hand.

This is why experienced players take the dealer’s first card into account when deciding what to do next. For example, even if you have a relatively weak hand, you might decide to stand if the dealer has a low first card. But you’ll be more likely to ask for another card if they’re showing something like an ace or a 10.

Side Bets and Insurance Are Optional

You may notice side bets and insurance are mentioned in some blackjack games, but not in others. These are optional wagers, and it’s important that you understand what they’re all about, so you can decide whether you want to place them or not.

Side bets are where you put money on things like the first cards to be dealt forming pairs, or adding up to a certain number. Insurance is where the dealer’s first card is an ace. Like any kind of insurance, it offers a sort of financial protection and in this case, that means that if you choose this option you get a payout if the dealer gets a total of 21 with their first two cards.

Once you’ve read these blackjack facts, you’re ready to play the game whenever you want to. The introduction of live dealer blackjack games has helped increase the number of variants available online, but you’ll find that the areas covered here are relevant in all of them.
