Why is Indian Food So Delicious and Good for You?

Indian cuisine has some of the most delicious dishes and recipes globally. Yes, some people say it is too spicy, which can be true in many cases, but is it healthy for you? It is in fact much healthier than many other dishes and recipes from around the world. The question that remains is, why are both of these statements true?

Indian Dishes Incorporate a Lot of Fresh Ingredients

Indians love fresh ingredients, especially vegetables, and they add them to most meals they make. Traditional Indian recipes dictate that the vegetables are cooked so that their freshness and nutritional value remain even after they are served. These vegetables make these foods very healthy by not losing their nutritional value.

This sentiment also applies to other ingredients, such as spices, where many Indians grind their own to ensure they are right for the different meals they prepare.

The Food Is Prepared from Scratch

All authentic Indian dishes are prepared from scratch. Preparing food like this ensures there are little to no preservatives because the recipes use fresh ingredients, and the food is consumed soon after it is prepared. Using little to no preservatives means that the food is healthy for everyone.

Additionally, many Indians do not believe in eating prepared foods because they believe they have lost their nutritional value through the preparation process. They prefer to process and prepare everything they cook themselves.

The best Indian restaurants also follow this principle. If you visit the best urban tandoor Indian restaurant in Bristol, the food will be made to order from scratch using the freshest ingredients to ensure it is not only delicious but also beneficial.

They Know When and When Not to Overlap Flavours

Many chefs in Europe or America aim to create dishes with overlapping flavours to create the best experience for those who eat their meals. However, Indians go the opposite route by using ingredients that do not overlap in flavours as much.

For example, many Indian dishes contain cayenne which is a spice. If a dish contains it, it is less likely to have ingredients with a similar flavour. The lack of flavour overlap leads to foods that produce different sensations when you eat them, with the interactions of the opposing flavours leading to more interesting and flavourful dishes.

On the other end of the spectrum, you will find a lot of overlap when the ingredients do not contain a lot of flavour. For example, a meal like curd rice has yoghurt and rice in it, and because these do not have strong flavours, they can be used together to produce interesting textures. Other ingredients, such as curry leaves and tempering spices, can be added to round out the dish.

Indian Spices Have Medicinal Value

Scientists have studied many spices used in Indian food and found that most contain medicinal properties. They have been proven to help with chronic pain, inflammation, diabetes and high blood pressure, making the dishes that use them very good for your health.

Indian food is very fascinating because it differs from one region to another., However, the overall sentiment is that it is very good and healthy for you. There are lots of reasons for this, ranging from the ingredients used to how it is prepared and cooked.
