Dead sea salt has been used for its healing properties for thousands and thousands of years. It’s even believed that the ancient queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, once made the most of the natural salts that exist in the dead sea. Dead sea salt is packed full of minerals that regular salt doesn’t contain. This is why dead sea salt is highly sought after, as its healing properties promote a whole bunch of benefits for your body.

Dead sea salt gets its name from the sea (or technically lake) in which it is naturally found. Despite being rich in minerals which is a fantastic thing for our skin, no life that isn’t microbial can survive in the dead sea due to its saltiness. However, for us humans, drowning in this lake is unlikely as if you ever visit, you’ll be able to float better than ever!

So what are the benefits of this salt? Westlab Salts tell us a few of the ways this type of salt is great for our bodies.

Helps Soothe Sensitive Skin

A big advantage that bathing in dead sea salt can give is that it is great for sensitive and dry skin. As this salt is 100% natural and has anti-inflammatory properties, it is gentle on the skin and helps to calm itchiness. Dead Sea salt not only soothes and nourishes sensitive skin, but also helps to protect the skin barrier to prevent dryness and itching.

Promotes Moisture Retention

Another reason as to why dead sea salt works wonders on the skin is that it helps lock in moisture and makes the skin look revitalised and healthy after use. Hydrated skin is necessary when it comes to healthy glowing skin, which is why many turn to dead sea salt as it is rich in minerals such as zinc and potassium. These minerals are linked to moisture retention and achieving a healthy glow!

Helps to Calm Eczema And Allergies

Eczema, psoriasis, and allergies are all said to be calmed by the usage of dead sea salt. The anti-inflammatory properties that this salt has means that it’s effective in easing inflammation in uncomfortable skin conditions such as eczema. Additionally, dead sea salt is known to fight off bacteria and allergens that can cause flare ups on the skin, making it great for those with inflammatory skin conditions.

Helps to Soothe Muscle Pain

Did you know that dead sea salt can also be used to soothe and relax muscles? The detoxifying properties of this salt makes it brilliant in soothing sore and tired muscles after a long day. Next time you find yourself tired out from the gym or any sport you may do, why not try out adding dead sea salt to your bath?

How to Use Dead Sea Salt

You may be wondering how to actually use dead sea salt effectively and safely. All you have to do is add 2-4 cups of this salt to your warm bath to be able to enjoy all the above benefits that it brings.

Although dead sea salt is great for eczema, it’s best not to use it on broken skin as this could further irritate it.
