Kids can be tricky, but brushing is a good habit to get them into and keeps teeth healthy for years. However, many children dislike the cleaning process because it can be painful. You might also be trying to make brushing fun with toddlers and find that you’re coming up empty-handed. Either way, we’ve put together this guide on how to make brushing fun for kids, from games like bubbles and candy to more involved activities that you can do with your child.

Here’re some ideas on how you can make their oral hygiene routine more fun!

1. Make it into a game.

This cosmetic dentist in paramus suggests incorporating games in brushing. Kids love games, so why not use games to encourage good oral hygiene? You can play musical chairs or hide-and-seek while brushing. Or try to count how many times you brush if you have multiple people brushing!

2. Add some music to your routine.

Music is a great way to distract your child from the task at hand and let them zone out while they are brushing. Try putting on a song that has a similar rhythm as the process of brushing or put their favorite song on and they might even find themselves moving along with the beat!

3. Let them pick out some new toothpaste and dental items.

Letting your kids help pick out their own toothbrushes and toothpaste might be the key to getting them excited about brushing! Now that they’ve chosen their favorite flavor, they will want to brush their teeth just because they love their new products.

4. Give them a baking project.

Give them a simple recipe that combines baking and brushing that they can do as an end result. They will be able to make the recipe themselves, eat the ingredients themselves, even enjoy eating their own baked treats. This is a great way to get them involved without feeling like they are being rushed through the process, or losing any type of independence.

5. A little creativity goes a long way.

Now that your child has a new favorite toothbrush and some tasty new toothpaste, they will want to show their friends how cool they are with their new look. Pick out some fun new toothbrushes and let them add stickers or even paint designs on them. When you’re done, they will be more than happy to use the fancy brushes.

6. Get the whole family involved.

Getting the entire family involved in the fun can make kids feel less like it’s something just for them and more of an activity for everyone to do. You can play games like Tooth Hunting to get everyone on the same page, or even go on a scavenger hunt with toothbrushes that have letters and numbers on them. The best part is this activity is fun for everyone, so even if you don’t care for it, you are sure to find something about it that makes it fun.

7. Spending quality time with your child.

The best part about picking activities that you can do with your kids is that you get to spend quality time with them. Whether it is brushing their teeth or going on an adventure to find hidden objects, being able to spend quality time with your child will mean the world to them and will make them cherish the moment.

Encouraging good dental hygiene from an early age will create a good foundation for your children’s oral and general health.
