Everyone needs a nice holiday every now and then; it restores the mind and body, enabling us to return to our daily lives feeling energised and refreshed. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford a five-star vacation on a tropical beach, but that doesn’t mean you couldn’t enjoy a great holiday from home. In fact, these ‘staycations’ are becoming more popular, and here are some of the reasons why.
Explore Where You Live
When you live somewhere, it’s easy to forget about it. It’s simple to dismiss it. However, when you’re on a staycation, you have the time to truly explore it and see what it has to offer. Visit all of the little boutiques and independent coffee shops that seem so appealing but that you usually pass by on your route to work or the gym or another chore. Take a stroll around the neighbourhood park to learn about the many types of animals that you can find there. Pretend you’re a visitor in town and look around with new eyes. What can you do and see? There are definitely more things to do there than you think.
Buy A Hot Tub
Staying at home and enjoying the garden in the sun can be a wonderful way to maximise your summer staycation. Allow the kids to play while you finally find the time to read a good book or actually get to download and listen to your favourite artist’s new album. Or maybe you can all play together – water battles are a lot of fun, particularly when it’s hot outside. A hot tub from Happy Hot Tubs is also a lot of fun, and if you use it properly, it can be an excellent addition to your outdoor area.
The great thing about a hot tub is that you can install it in your garden, and, with a little maintenance, you can have a warm, bubbly bath ready for you at any time. Imagine the family playing in there or relaxing in the evening with a glass of wine. This is what could make your staycation perfect.
Don’t Use Any Devices
This idea is not for everyone, but it will greatly improve your staycation if you can pull it off. Unplug. Allow yourself to be device-free. Put your iPads and smartphones somewhere safe and don’t look at them while you’re on vacation from work. Instead of looking at a screen, look at the world with your eyes. If you really must use your gadgets, limit your usage to brief periods, maybe at certain times of the day. When you get into the habit of not checking your phone every few minutes, you’ll notice how much more you enjoy yourself. If you enjoy the feeling of disconnecting, you might also turn off the TV for the duration of your holiday, or only use it to watch films together.
Take Care Of Yourself
If you’ve always wanted to experience a spa day, your staycation is the perfect opportunity. You can transform your bathroom into a relaxing haven (or even use your new hot tub). Bath oils or bubble bath, face masks, eye cushions, candles, and perhaps some soothing music are all you need. Then make sure you can be left alone for a little while to soak your worries away. You’ll feel fantastic when you’re through, and for a fraction of the cost of a real spa.
