Do you love everything about sneakers? Do you love buying for them, learning about them, and wearing them?

Then you already have what it takes to turn yourself into a serious sneakerhead. All you will need to do is continue to add to your sneaker collection over time to become the best sneakerhead you can be.

Today, we will discuss tips to help you get started in your journey of becoming a sneaker collector.

1. Know What You Like

When starting a sneaker collection, you have to decide on which types of sneakers you like the most.

Do you like high tops, or are you a low-top sneaker person? Does a particular sneaker or running shoe look good on your foot? Do you like color, or do you want to stick with a classic black or white?

Before buying sneakers, these are great questions to ask yourself, especially if you do not know what you like.

Some sneaker collectors love Air Jordans and devote their time trying to add as many Jordans to their sneaker collections as they can. Others prefer Yeezys and want to get their hands on as many of them as possible.

You do not have to fall in love with just one type of sneakers. Although there may be a few of your favorites that serve as the foundation of your sneaker collection.

2. Do Not Spend Too Much

It is easy to get caught up in the hype of sneaker collecting, but this can do a serious number on your budget.

Do not go overboard when you are looking for the perfect pair to start your collection with. Instead, keep an eye out for one or two designer shoes that you like and within a reasonable price range.

Also, you can be on the lookout for raffles for sneakers. This is an excellent way for sneaker collectors to get highly sought-after sneakers without paying a lot of money.

3. Start Simple

When starting your collection, you do not need the newest Jordan’s or Air Max as your first pair. Start with a fresh pair of all-white Air Force Ones or a pair of shell-toe Adidas. Why? Because they are classic.

I am not exaggerating when I say they go with everything in your closet. You can wear either sneakers with a suit, a dress, or sweats; you name it. Also, you can upgrade each season if you need a fresh new pair.

4. Take Advantage of Promotional Deals

If you are trying to save as much money as possible, it is best only to buy sneakers sold at a discounted price and shop online. There are plenty of shoe sales happening online at any time, so it is just a matter of paying attention to the sale start and end dates.

Subscribe to the newsletters and weekly updates offered by many shoe retailers so you can be instantly notified about upcoming promotions.

5. Try Your Hand on Auction Sites

You might be wary about placing bids for sneakers on auction sites like eBay because there is always the concern that you might not get what you paid for, or the sneakers could be in worse condition than advertised.

However, if you are thorough about checking seller feedback and setting a maximum bid amount, you can often get in on excellent second-hand deals for hard-to-find sneakers.

Many sneaker collectors use auction sites to liquidate their old pairs. The market is so busy that you can often find auctions with very little bidding competition and sometimes no minimum reserve price.

6. Show Off Your Latest Sneaker Investments on Social Media

If you want to keep your sneaker collection to yourself, you are welcome to do it. But most sneakerheads love the opportunity to show off their latest sneaker investments to the world.

You can do this by taking and posting photos of your collection across major social media platforms. It will help you develop a particular look and give other sneakerheads an indication of which types of sneakers you like the best.

7. Develop Relationships With Other Sneakerheads

The great part about becoming a sneakerhead is that it will give you a chance to connect with lots of other sneakerheads. It would be best if you tried to form relationships with them both online and at any sneaker-related events that you attend.

The more sneakerheads you meet and correspond with, the more you will feel like a sneakerhead yourself. You will be well on your way to solidifying your standing within the footwear industry.

8. Store Your Shoes Correctly

Keep an eye out for a fantastic way to showcase your sneaker collection display. Whether it is closet shelving, racks, or clear shoe containers, you want to ensure that your sneakers are adequately stored so they stay in good shape. Ask other sneaker collectors how they store theirs or go online for some inspiration and ideas.

9. Clean and Maintain Your Shoes Regularly

If your goal is to expand the size of your collection, it does not make sense to go around ruining the pairs that you already have. At that point, you are just buying new sneakers to replace the ones you are tearing up.

Set rules about how and when you wear specific shoes. Keep a pair or two of old sneakers for play and leave the rest of your collection for special occasions.

Wipe and clean your shoes when you are done wearing them. Store them appropriately, you can use newspaper to stuff the inside and keep them in their original box to prevent creasing and dust build-up.

Conclusion

You are not going to become a sneakerhead overnight. Even if you have tons of money and can create a killer sneaker collection in a single day, you will have to put a little more effort into it to be seen as a serious sneakerhead.

Follow the steps found here to become a true sneakerhead. They will put you on the right path and help you turn yourself into a sneakerhead in no time at all.
