Are you someone who loves taking part in marathons? Or do you prefer a gentle but brisk hike through the countryside?
Either way, exercise is great for everyone who does it, and if you are looking for a way to make money for a charity you are enthusiastic about, there are many ways to do so by just using the steps that you take.
So, here are some ideas to investigate to get your fundraising efforts going!
Standard Walks or Marathons
When you are looking to raise money for a charity like Macmillan Cancer Support, one of the standard ways you can use your walking or running to support the cause is to take part in a walkathon or marathon.
This will allow you to raise awareness of the charity by wearing a charity t-shirt and to get people to sponsor you for taking part.
Costume Walks
You usually see this around Halloween, and as autumn rolls in, now would be the perfect time to take part in a costume walk or run to raise money for charity.
Dressing in a costume makes the walk or run more light-hearted; everyone laughs when they see someone running or walking while dressed as a T-Rex! This will help to draw attention to the walk, raise money for the charity of your choosing and will make for some very funny photos to look back on!
Just make sure you can move well in the costume before you leave the house!
Dog Walking
Are you looking to raise money for a dog’s home or other animal charity? If yes, then why not add some four-legged friends into the mix? This will add some extra fun to the walk and will also help owners and dogs to do something great for your cause.
It is best to ensure that the dogs that are taking part in the walk are suited to doing so. Some people may have older dogs, or rescue dogs that may need help with socialisation. So, you can send our forms prior to the event to check for dog temperament and mobility levels, to ensure that a little old Jack Russell with arthritis is not put in the same walking group as a sprightly Springer spaniel!
T-Shirt Walks
If you are taking part in a charity walk or marathon, you can boost your donations by selling fundraiser t-shirts before the event. That way, they can be worn while taking part in the event, while also raising awareness of the charity. There are lots of charities that can help by offering you branded shirts to sell for set events, which also usually have the location and the date on them. However, if you have been involved in the fundraiser, why not ask the charity to print your own custom design?
There is also the option to contact local businesses who may be willing to sponsor your running, or to assist in the printing of t-shirts. This is a great way to raise awareness and to get sponsorships if you are fundraising individually.
Food Walk
Yes, you read that right!
Before you ask, no, a food walk is not a walk that you take part in whilst eating. Rather, you and the other people who are taking part bring along food that you have made at home and then sell it when everyone crosses the finish line. This helps to raise money for the charity that you and others are supporting and ensures that everyone has something tasty to eat after taking part in a run or walk for charity.
