Life is full of ups and downs, but when you are at a low point, it can be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. During these hard times, having someone that you trust be there for you can help you to get through the rough patch and make these hardships a little bit easier to manage. When you think about how much you appreciate getting that kind of support, it might make you realise how important it is to return the favour and help your loved ones when they are struggling too. If you want to support someone you care about who is having a tough time, here are a few tips to help you express your love and support to them.

Make Time for Them

The best way to show someone you care is to make time for them. Sometimes this can be a challenge, as everyone has careers or other commitments in their weekly routines that keep them busy. However, when you know your friend or relative is having a hard time, make sure that you do set some time aside in your calendar to go and visit them. You can invite them over for dinner for some comfort food, or coffee, take them out somewhere, or even just a phone call or video chat would be a good way to give them the chance to talk it out with you if they want to. It doesn’t take a lot to do this, but it will make a big difference to them.

Send Them a Surprise Gift

Another way you can show some love and support is by surprising them with a thoughtful gift. You don’t always have to wait for their birthday or another special occasion, sometimes getting something unexpected is the perfect way to give your mood a boost and feel loved. A gorgeous bouquet can help brighten up the room and are always lovely to receive, you could look at sending a gift hamper full of tasty treats. If you don’t want to send them a food hamper, look at these pamper hampers as an alternative, which would be ideal for a bit of self-care that they will likely need during this time.

Respect Their Boundaries

While making time for your loved ones and letting them know you are thinking about them is important, you do need to respect their boundaries as well. Everyone handles stress, grief, anxiety, or other strong emotions differently, and while you might deal with yours in a certain way, your friend might not do the same. If they have said that they don’t want to talk about it, or would like some time alone to reflect on their situation, you need to let them do this. As long as they know you are there for them, they will come to you when they are ready.

If you want to do what you can to support a loved one who is going through a hard time, use these tips to help show them how much you care about them and respect them.
