How to Get Ready for House Guests in Five Minutes?

By Voucherix-C Leave a Comment

Getting your house ready for unplanned visits is one of those events which can send you on an emotional rollercoaster.

However, whether your in-laws are popping in for a surprise check-in or your friends have blatantly invited themselves over, breathe deep and don’t panic. You can make your home more presentable in just ten minutes with these quick and easy tips.

House Guests jan25 f-1

Prioritise the Entryway

Since it is the first thing people see when they arrive at your home, the state of your entryway will determine your guests’ first impression of your residence. Keeping this area in tip-top condition immediately makes your house feel more inviting.

Sort any shoes scattered across the floor first, and then hang all scarves and coats that are haphazardly lying around.

Next, give the doormat at your main entryway a quick brush or shake to remove as much of the accumulated dust as possible.

Additionally, you will want to get rid of any misplaced knick-knacks or mail that you have randomly discarded on the console or foyer table. You can hide them from sight in any basket or drawer near the front door.

If you have a corridor mirror, you should quickly clean it. A polished mirror reflects light, giving the impression of a cleaner and brighter space. You would be amazed at how a gleaming mirror can deflect attention from other small messes.

Focus on High-Traffic Areas

When you only have a couple of minutes to put everything in order, do not even bother with the rooms your guests will not enter.

Instead, focus on the living room, kitchen, and bathroom. These are the areas where guests will usually stay in and visit.

Take a brief look around the living room and stash away any noticeable clutter, including toys, magazines, or remote controls.

Then, fluff your cushions and fold any blankets neatly to instantly make the space more comfortable. If you have time, quickly wipe the coffee table to get rid of any dust or fingerprint smudges.

As for the kitchen, it may be difficult to make it look immaculate on short notice, particularly if you have recently cooked or had a rather hectic day. You will want to focus only on the basics when you do not have much time.

Clear the countertop of any used utensils, and wash them along with any filthy dishes in the washbasin. It is better to load the dishwasher later since you are probably going to have more plates and cups to clean after your guests leave.

Tidy up the Bathroom

Though nobody expects your bathroom to be perfect, a few simple chores will instantly freshen up the space.

A plain bathroom counter makes the entire space seem more put together. So, start by clearing the counters of any personal belongings, including makeup or toothbrushes.

Next, grab a damp cloth and wipe off any watermarks and toothpaste splatter.

Then, make sure there is a fresh hand towel and enough toilet paper for your guests. When you do not have time for deep cleaning, fresh towels can make a huge difference in terms of sprucing up the place.

Finally, give the toilet bowl a quick brush, and wipe the seat and handle clean. It is generally advised to sanitise these frequently used surfaces regularly to maintain good hygienic standards.

If you want to go above and beyond for your visitors, light a fragrant candle or spray some air freshener after you are done. Your guests will surely appreciate the relaxing ambience.

Add a Touch of Freshness

Once more, you will not be able to thoroughly clean every surface when you are in a hurry. With a few basic touches, though, your home will appear much cleaner.

Open a window or two to allow some fresh air in. Within a few minutes, this will completely elevate the feel and mood of the space.

If you have any fresh flowers or plants, place them on the kitchen counter or dining table. This will liven up the space and lend the impression of a well-maintained home.

If you have no flowers, no problem! A well-arranged fruit platter will add a pop of colour and breathe life into your home.

For the final touches, light a few candles or dim the lights. Soft lighting hides the dust and clutter you did not get around to cleaning, making any area seem cosier.

Call in the Professionals for Next Time

Ten minutes is not always enough to spruce up a place. If you are always rushing to tidy up before receiving visitors, this is your sign that you need to call in a professional cleaner.

They will ensure that every nook and cranny passes the white glove test, even the areas that are difficult to reach.

Let’s face it, amid the rush, it’s easy to overlook the dust layer hiding under your furnishings, bunkered behind baseboards, or settled around window ledges. They will get to those often overlooked spots, too.

Not only that, but they can also handle the difficult chores you keep putting off, such as bathroom grouting or deep carpet cleaning.

Since they use premium cleaning methods and products that are not accessible to the general public, they will help you keep your residence ready for guests all year round.

Is it not everyone’s dream to have an impeccably shiny home with minimum effort?

Conclusion

As you see, there is really no need to panic. Besides, your guests are coming to see you, not your house. Do not stress if everything is not flawless.

Most people will not pay attention to the small details, and they most definitely will not be looking for dusty corners or clutter in your house.

The fact that your visitors feel welcome and at ease is what’s more important.

Even with just five minutes to spare, your home will be ready for guests. Lastly, keep in mind that having professional cleaners come in every now and then will also help keep your home ready for any surprise visits in the future.
