Do you love staying indoors and hiding from everyone? Do you love wearing oversized jumpers and jogging bottoms almost 24/7? If so, you know this season is the one for you. The one you’ve been waiting for.
It’s the time of year when all things in your life turn cosy, especially your home. This year, we’ve got some extra cosy autumn/winter changes we think your home (and you) will love.
Read on to find out more.
Autumn/Winter Colours
Autumn/winter colours are, you guessed it, super cosy.
How about changing your bright colours to deep burnt orange, deep chocolate brown, or deep brown tan? They’re the colours that, if you change them now, you can still style throughout the year.
These tones help create warmth and comfort in every room. Adding cushions, throws, or even changing your curtains for the above tones can do wonders for the appearance of your room if you don’t want to go for an entire paint job.
We also love darker options like navy blue, plum, or even forest green into your walls or accent styles.
Autumn/Winter Renovations
Autumn/winter renovations can be beneficial for surviving the season if it isn’t your thing.
Draft-proofing your windows and doors is one way to ensure there are no drafts in your home, which allows you to maintain the warmth in your home and saves those essential pennies on heating costs. You can even replace old doors with glazed internal doors to keep you extra cosy. You should know that drafts will find any crevice they can to flow through your home, and you sure will feel it when that draft is icy cold from the outside.
Another top tip: ensure all parts of your radiators are intact and properly working. You might also want to install a programmable thermostat to enhance the efficiency of your cosiness.
As annoying as it may seem right now, these tiny changes will accumulate to keep you comfortable.
Autumn/Winter Furnishings
We love seasonal furnishings.
Start, for example, in the living room or the bedroom by gradually adding elements like cosy blankets, autumn-coloured candles for decor, autumn-scented candles for the vibes, a fluffy dressing gown (not classed as a furnishing, but essential), and anything that makes you feel cosy.
We’re not about to tell you to go out and buy a new sofa, but there are things you can do to make your home more cosy with simple furnishings.
Changing your summer bedding to a shaggier, thicker tog duvet is also a must. If you’re not snuggling up under a duvet that’s at least tog 8.0, what are you doing with your life? Bonus points if you get one of the teddy furry duvet covers. Some people even take it to the extreme and get a heated blanket, but that depends on how much you want to sweat at night!
Don’t spend a fortune, make small changes that make a big difference to how autumnal/wintery your home feels when you’re in it.
Autumn/Winter Cosy Vibes
If the thought of witches, pumpkins, and hot drinks being unavoidable gives you a big warm hug, then this is the time of year for you.
As the cooler air rolls in, this is the season to indulge in soft textures and warm lighting. We want to remind you to simply enjoy it. Spend your evenings on the sofa, candle on, bar of chocolate next to you (don’t forget about it and let it melt), Netflix on, and your feet up. The seasonal depression is becoming more of an issue – but we think you need to embrace the indoor vibes. If you simply have to be outdoors, go out in the morning!
We’d recommend using this time to plan, reset, and feel comfortable hiding away from the world. Who wants to go out in the rain anyway?!
Do you love the season and are you ready to get cosy? We hope you are, considering we’ve spent the article talking about things you can do to make your vibe cosy. We know the season isn’t for everyone, and even if it isn’t, we’re sure there are things you can do to enjoy the cooler weather, crisp mornings, and cosy (sorry!) nights.
