Sonic Electric Toothbrush vs. Regular Electric Toothbrush: Which One is Better?

By Voucherix-C Leave a Comment

You’re brushing your teeth every day, twice a day, but are you doing it right?

Are those pearly whites as white and clean as they should be? Which toothbrush is better against cavities — a Sonic electric toothbrush or an electric toothbrush? What a way to get our heads dizzy. How are we supposed to decide what to do? Do we leave the regular electric toothbrush and go for the Sonic?

If you’re looking for a just-came-from-the-dentist smooth finish — i.e., super clean, super polished — you may be wondering, “Which way should I go?” Don’t really know the difference and can’t make up your mind on which side to take? Let’s see which toothbrush will win as we break down their features.

How Do Electric and Sonic Toothbrushes Work?

Before picking the best toothbrush, it’s important to understand how each works.

  • Regular Electric Toothbrush

A regular electric toothbrush will have either disposable or non-disposable brush heads that are spun or rotated to remove plaque. This is done with speeds of 2500 to 7500 rotations or revolutions per minute (or over 41 to 125 per second!) — quite the jump from good old manual toothbrushing.

  • Sonic Electric Toothbrush

A Sonic toothbrush changes that completely. Because this vibrates a lot faster than regular electric versions (between 24 and 48,000 strokes per minute), this vibration (also called frequency) shifts fluid and creates foam and waves. And those swells can also reach areas farther away from the teeth, making it much easier to remove all plaque and bacteria.

Which One Cleans Your Teeth Better?

They both do a good job of removing plaque. But a Sonic one helps get your teeth extra clean and white (almost like those ads).

More Tooth Surface Area: The fast movement of the Sonic bristles makes it easy to clean even those hard-to-reach areas of your mouth (such as in between teeth and around your gum lines).

More Plaque Removal from Fluid Dynamics: The fast movement of the bristles can cause microbubbles to form from the bristles. Thus, helping you get into all areas and remove bacteria and other unwanted, invisible stuff.

It’s A Gentle Clean: The Sonic toothbrush is perfect for those with sensitive gums. It does a good job of getting rid of plaque — no more bleeding or sore gums.

Which Toothbrush is Better for Gum Health?

Healthy gums are as important as squeaky cleanliness. Because bleeding gums, inflammation, irritation and oversensitivity can directly indicate the wrong brushing method or spark any signal that your toothpaste is not working as it should be.

Sonic removes the plaque formed over gum margins. But only if we use it very carefully (as it should be) and don’t put extra pressure on the sensitive gum areas.

The foamy liquid created will reach in-between those gums and enamel, thus keeping them away from the collection of bacteria and other not-needed microorganisms and dirt.

Which One is Easier to Use?

Both kinds of toothbrushes do the work of getting your teeth cleaned (after all, what else should it be doing, right?) The little hairs of the brush move the bristles on the head of the brush. What’s different is the shape of the bristle heads.

Most brushes that use batteries have a little round head. You could, if you wanted, brush one tooth at a time.

A Sonic brush head, however, is large — not particularly round. It can get all those teeth at one time. All you have to do is move the brush to the required places and it will do the ultimate job for your oral care.

Which One is Better for People with Braces or Dental Work?

For those with braces, dental work, or implants, taking care of your smile requires a little extra finesse. A basic electric toothbrush cleans in and around wires and brackets but often misses the nooks and crannies. A Sonic toothbrush — like one from Spotlight Oral Care — sends fast fluid waves into your mouth, breaking up food and plaque and cleaning where an average toothbrush cannot reach.

Sonic is a new technology that allows you to get the cleaning job done — a clean, gentle approach to your smile.
