Uber has become a common mode of transport for many. But where there is widespread use, there comes the unfortunate reality of accidents.

Uber accidents can inflict a variety of injuries, ranging from minor to severe, on riders and other road users. Having knowledge of the type of injuries most commonly incurred in an Uber accident is important to obtain adequate medical care and the legal process that follows.

If you are involved in an Uber accident, it would be beneficial to search for an Uber accident lawyer in your area. They can let you know your rights and acquire compensation for your injury.

Here are some common types of injuries sustained in Uber accidents.

Soft Tissue Injuries

Soft tissue trauma is the most common form of injury to occur in Uber accidents. It consists of injuries to the tendons, ligaments, and muscles and can manifest itself through bruising, swelling, and pain.

Whiplash, a common neck injury as a result of sudden jerking motion, is a common soft tissue injury. Contusions, sprains, and strains are considered soft tissue injuries as well. While a few soft tissue injuries heal relatively quickly, some result in continuous pain and limited mobility.

Fractures

Fractures are one of the most common types of injury in Uber accidents. Fractures may be as minor as a hairline fracture or as bad as a compound fracture, for which surgery may be required.

Fractures are likely to happen in the arms, legs, ribs, and the pelvis. Treatment varies depending on the severity of the fracture, for which a cast, splinting, or surgery can be used. Fractures require a long recovery process that at times involves physical therapy.

Head Injuries

Head injuries carry the risk of long-term damage. Concussions, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and skull fractures are possible in Uber accidents, especially when the impact is hard.

Concussions result in temporary confusion, dizziness, and memory difficulty, while TBI can result in permanent mental, emotional, and physical disabilities.  Prompt emergency treatment following an injury to the head is crucial.

Spinal Cord Injuries

A spinal cord injury is a severe type of injury that may result from Uber accidents. It results in paralysis, loss of sensation, and other neurological complications. The location and severity of the spinal cord injury determine the degree of disability. Spinal cord injury is difficult to cure and typically necessitates rehabilitation and long-term treatment.

Psychological Trauma

Besides the physical harm, Uber accidents also cause severe psychological harm.  Riders can develop anxiety, fear, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following a traumatic accident. Psychological harm is as debilitating as bodily harm and requires the services of trained mental health professionals.

Other Injuries

Internal trauma, such as internal organ injury, can be difficult to detect immediately after an Uber accident. Abdominal discomfort, internal bleeding, and difficulty breathing are some of the signs that could manifest after an internal injury. A physical examination should be conducted immediately if the victim shows signs of internal injury, as they could lead to serious consequences.
